Stone will always be used to mark the Great.

Today was unveiled the design for the new tombstone for Richard the Third and this time it it not in Portland !!  but in  Swaledale fossil stone, quarried in North Yorkshire ! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-27865860

The simple and stern design can work well only because of the inner beauty of the stone itself ! I hope the finish texture will not be highly polish and that the designer will try to get as much as possible from simple texture
