There is much satisfaction to be had for a stonemason when producing a new piece of work, however the greatest satisfaction that can be felt by a stonemason is that experienced when you retore a neglected or tired looking piece back to its former glory. Stonework restoration and conservation is as much an art as it is a science and it takes a special kind of craftsman to fully appreciate how a piece may once have been and may be again.
